How to get to Suze-la-Rousse?

The village of Suze-la-Rousse is located 8 km from Bollène, 39 km from Montélimar, 19 km from Orange and 45 km from Avignon. It is 18 km from Grignan.

By car

  • A7 motorway exit 19 Bollène, then follow the D994 to Suze-la-Rousse (7,6 km).

By train and bus
Pierrelatte train station, connecting bus station. Practical.

Is it easy to park?

Yes, it is very easy to park at the castle of Suze-la-Rousse, whether by car, coach or camper van.

Cars

Parking at the Jardin des Vignes located below the castle.
Then follow the pedestrian route indicated and marked by a path, which is located on the right of the parking lot, below the castle (a few steps on this path).
For your information, this parking lot is equipped with a charging point for 2 electric vehicles


For people with reduced mobility, those experiencing walking difficulties, and families with strollers
Accessible parking  in the immediate vicinity of the castle, with a suitable route to the ticket office.


Coaches
Several parking spaces are available in the upper car park of the castle.

Motorhomes

  • Parking is permitted and free on the Vignes parking below the castle.
  • Motorhomes are not allowed to go to the upper car park in the park.

Baby equipment
Is the tour route accessible with a stroller?

Strollers and metal baby carriers are not permitted on the tour route. If needed, you can leave your stroller at the castle entrance (ticket office). Our staff can provide baby carriers depending on availability (ID required). For your convenience, we recommend bringing a front-facing baby carrier for your visit.

Is there a changing table at the castle?

Yes, a changing table is available in the toilets located just behind the room dedicated to the history of the Jeu de Paume, at the level of the inner courtyard.

Can I leave my belongings somewhere during my visit?

Yes, lockers/storage facilities are available, subject to availability, in the exhibition hall.

Pets
Can I visit the castle with my pet?
  • Animals are not allowed on the tour route. If you are visiting in a group, you may wait with your pet on a leash in the inner courtyard (after purchasing your entrance tickets) so that you can take turns exploring the castle. Your pet must always be accompanied; it cannot be left unattended in the courtyard.
  • Animals are welcome in the park at Suze-la-Rousse castle, provided they are kept on a leash.
Can I leave my pet in the central aisle during the visit?

If you are visiting in a group, you can wait with your pet on a leash in the inner courtyard (after purchasing your entrance tickets) so that you can take turns exploring the castle. Your four-legged friend must always be accompanied; it cannot be left unattended in the courtyard.

A companion can also remain in the park to look after your dog, which must be kept on a leash. A water point for pets is available in the main walkway, opposite the Jeu de Paume.

We remind you that it is forbidden to leave an animal locked alone in a vehicle, even if you are parked in a shaded area.

Food and drinks
Am I allowed to have a picnic outside the castle?

Yes, there is a picnic area in the upper parking lot, under the trees. It is equipped with tables, recycling bins, and a compost bin. It's a very pleasant place to sit down for a meal or a snack.

Eating and drinking are not permitted in the castle or on the tour route.

Is there a machine to buy a snack or a drink?

Yes, there is a vending machine on your left at the entrance to the castle (drinks + sweet snacks).

Is there a restaurant on site?

No, there are no restaurants near the castle. You can bring a picnic to enjoy in the park (picnic area available) or find a restaurant nearby. Please note that depending on the season, a service offering cold drinks and snacks may be available in the castle courtyard.

What are the temperatures at the castle in winter and summer?

Be prepared, the temperature inside the castle varies according to the seasons.
In summer, it can get hot in the rooms, so remember to bring water. You can refill your containers on site. If needed, bottled water is available for purchase from a vending machine. Conversely, it can get cold in the castle in winter.

What are the closing days?

Depending on the season, the castle may be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The castle is closed annually from the end of the Christmas holidays until the beginning of the winter holidays for the thorough maintenance of the castle and its collections. It is also closed during the last week of November for the installation of the Christmas display, as well as on December 25th and January 1st.

Do I need to book my ticket in advance?

There is no obligation, but online ticketing allows you to purchase tickets in advance and reserve self-guided or guided tours, shows, or activities. Tickets for self-guided and guided tours can also be purchased on-site (subject to availability for guided tours).
However, our visitors are strongly advised to book their tickets in advance for activities and guided tours where the number of participants is limited. 

Do children need tickets?

Yes, children must also have a ticket, although the price varies depending on the program and age.

Are there guided tours?

Throughout the year, you can discover the history of the castle on a guided tour, accompanied by our guides. Daily introductory tours are offered year-round (times vary according to the schedule).

Yes, this is subject to a reservation at the group package rates.

Are there guided tours in English, German, or Dutch?
  • For individual visitors, guided tours in English are offered depending on the season and the program.
  • For groups, It is possible to arrange a guided tour in English upon reservation.
Until what time can I enter the castle for a visit?

The last access to the tour route takes place 45 minutes before the castle closes.
This should also be taken into account during midday closures (lunch break).

Are there any tours or activities in the castle grounds?

The castle grounds, called La Garenne, are open to the public. 

Walkers and visitors are asked to respect the guidelines for preserving this protected natural area. Depending on the season, several activities are offered to explore the park: orienteering (maps are available free of charge at the castle reception), treasure hunts, nature observation trails, sulkie rides, wooden games, and more. The Garenne also contains built heritage, which can be explored independently or with a guide during a themed tour or family activity. Picnic tables are available year-round.

I would like to have wedding photos taken at the castle, is that possible?

Wedding photographs are not permitted at the castle. except in exceptional circumstances decided by the Director of the establishment.

No exceptions will be made at the entrance to the site by the reception and ticket office staff. Thank you for your understanding.

I am an influencer/blogger/YouTuber, can I take photos and videos however I want?

Filming of influencers, bloggers and/or youtubers is subject to prior authorization from the communications department – ​​or in its absence, from a representative of management.

I would like to do a video shoot and/or a photo shoot for a video/photo project at the castle, is that possible?

Any form of photo shoot or video clip for personal, professional and/or commercial use (singer, music group, clothing brand, costume rental, perfume, cosmetics or other…) requiring or not requiring special outfits or outfit changes inside the castles must be the subject of a prior request and a fee.

Initially, filming may be authorized subject to project approval by the communications department and/or management; subsequently, the project is submitted to the sales department for a customized quote. To this end, A detailed and reasoned request must be sent by email at least 45 days before the desired date to leschateaux@ladrome.fr in order to be studied by the relevant departments.
